SLALOM

Kayak slalom competition was organised for the first time in Switzerland in the year 1933. It was on its debut on the 1992 Olimpik games in Augsburg, Munich, Germany.

Kayak slalom normally organised in streams with rapids, be it natural or artificial. There are 25 white red and white green gates suspended throughout the 350 metres course.

In Malaysia, this event is still at the development stage. The first official slalom course was organised by Malaysia Canoe Association in year 1995 atKuala Kubu Baru, Selangor in the year 1995 by Mr. Salehuddin Ayub, Malaysia's first slalomist in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, USA.

Among the rivers used for kayak slalom competition are:-

1. Sungai Sedim, Kulim, Kedah
2. Sungai Sungkai, Sungkai, Perak
3. Air Terjun Chamang, Bentung, Pahang

Pool slalom competition is also organised in a small scale in Malaysia in order to attract future slalomist. Amont the events include pool slalom are Regatta Kuala Lumpur and Karnival Kanu Putrajaya.
