FLATWATER RACING

Flatwater racing canoe/kayak was introduced in the 11th. Olimpic Games, Berlin in the year 1936. Tradionally, the Olimpic Games canoe/kayak events are 1000 metre and 500 metre for both men and women. The kayaks and canoes are K1, K2, K4, C1, C2 and C4.

In Malaysia, flatwater racing kayak was introduced in the 4th. SUKMA Games, Johor Baharu in the year 1992. The traditional events are K1 and K2 with the distances of 500 metre and 1000 metre. However, SUKMA Games in the years of 1998, 2002 and 2004 did not list flatwater racing kayak as one of the events.

The sports has been developing vigorously in Malaysia. In general, the events most popular in Malaysia are 1000 metre, 500 metre and 200 metre on K1 and K2. C-canoes flatwater racing are still not not popular in Malaysia.
